Kalavantin Durg Information

Kalavantin Durg was built by Bahmani Sultanate. It is said that Kalavantin Durg was built in honour of a Queen Kalavantin. Kalavantin provides excellent view of it’s surrounding mountains. When we reach on the top of Kalavantin, we can see whole Matheran mountain range.

We can see excellent view of Chanderi Fort, Nakhind Ridge, Peb Fort, Karnala Fort and Malanggad. More than a Fort, Kalavantin can be used as Watchtower. Kalavantin Durg is one of the famous trekkking place near Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.

Kalavantin Trek Route

Kalavantin Trek route is simple and well marked till the top of Kalavantin Durg. Kalavantin trek begins from Thakurwdi village. 15 minutes of gradual trek and we reach a place where we can park our vehicle. Actual hike begins form here. We have to Pay Rs. 50 (in Monsoon season) and Rs. 20 (in Winter and Summer season) as Entry fee. Parking fee is Rs. 30 and Rs. 50 for two-wheeler and four-wheeler respectively.

The Route is Zig-Zag till the Prabalmachi Village. From Prabalmachi route is divided in two parts, Left route goes to Kalvantin while right goes to Prabalgad Fort. Prabalgad Fort is next to Kalavantin Durg. After half an hour treks from Prabalmachi village, we reach the col between Kalavantin and Prabalgad Fort. From here, There are rock cut stairs which are quite steep and have bigger height. These rock cut stairs are easy to climb unless one has vertigo or fear of height. Climbing stairs in rainy season is tricky. So, we should take upmost care.

Final patch is about climbing 15 feet rock and probably the most difficult patch of Kalavantin trek. There is a rope has been placed which help trekkers to overcome this difficult patch.

Time Required to Reach Kalavantin Top: 2-3 Hours

Camping / Accommodation Facility: There is no place to stay on the top of Kalavantin Durg. If you want to stay on the top of Kalavantin Durg, then you should have your own tent. The Best place to stay is Prabalmachi Village. Prabalmachi village is the huge plateau and Toilets facility is available in Prabalmachi Village.

Food Facility: Food Facility is available in Prabalmachi Village. Prabalmachi village is situated at the base of Kalavantin Durg and Prabalgad Fort.

How to reach Kalavantin Durg

Kalavantin Durg can be reach via Panvel Railway Station. There are regular ST buses available from Panvel bus stop to Thakurwadi Village.

Bus Time Table:

Panvel to Thakurwadi Village: 5.10am, 6.55am, 8.00am, 9.50am, 10.55am, 12.00pm, 1.00pm, 2.15pm, 3.50pm

Thakuwadi to Panvel: Last bus from Panvel to Thakuwadi village is at 8.00pm
